Villagers
Villagers is the alias for Dubliner Conor O’Brien, the first ever Irish artist to be signed to the influential Domino Records. His debut album, Becoming a Jackal, reached No 1 in the Irish charts and is deservedly ratcheting up reams of five star reviews. But Villagers are no flash in the pan outfit – they’ve been courted by Jools Holland and hand-picked by Richard Thompson to play at his Meltdown Festival in London. It has been an extraordinary journey for O’Brien from obscurity to the brink of the big time – and to Open House 2010 for his Belfast debut. Catch him while you can in a small, intimate venue. We can’t wait.
What a beautiful and remarkable debut. A mournful singing voice and arrangements teaming with texture and nuance. Becoming a Jackal exudes a confidence that speaks of a rare talent and a significant new find Sunday Times
