Mike Scott and the Waterboys found popular success in 1985 with The Whole Of The Moon’ and a many-layered sound called ‘The Big Music’. But he became dissatisfied with the music industry and the expansive style. He moved to Dublin and listened to records by Neil Young, Dylan and Hank Williams. Eventually, he set up camp in Spiddal House, overlooking Galway Bay, where his love for Irish traditional music started to blossom. The result was a 1988 release, ‘Fisherman’s Blues’.
To celebrate the album’s 20th birthday, the Oh Yeah music centre will re-imagine the album with local artists. Stuart Bailie will talk about the birth of this classic record and then introduce each track in sequence.
