Gerry “fiddle” O'Connor comes from a musical family in Dundalk with at least four generations of fiddle players. He learned music from his mother Rose O'Connor and from hand-written manuscripts passed down through the family. He is known for his uniquely personal style of fiddle playing – splendidly fluid bow-hand combined with technical virtuosity.

Gerry is joined tonight by Fermanagh flute player, tin whistler and singer Cathal McConnell of The Boys of the Lough, one of the best-loved performers in the world of traditional music. Cathal also traces flute playing back through four generations in his family and won the All Ireland championship on both flute and tin whistle while still in his teens.

Gerry’s son, Dónal O’Connor, will accompany the duo on piano. Donal is well known to Belfast audiences as a busy musician on the local scene and internationally, not least for his fiddle playing with local trad supergroup At First Light. JB Vallely called him “One of the outstanding players of his generation”.
