“The smoothest, bluegrass tinged, measured acoustic country singing and playing you could wish for this side of the Atlantic” Maverick Magazine
The original Southern Tenant Folk Union was a ground breaking multi-racial union of sharecroppers and non-landowning tenant farmers founded in Arkansas in the 1930s. This new Union is a six-piece London-based musical collective, who have been together just two years and whose second album, Revivals, Rituals & Union Songs just released on Rough Trade Records, is now getting regular airplay from the likes of BBC Radio 2’s Mark Lamarr, Mark Radcliffe and Steve Lamacq, as well as our own Ralph McClean.
Expect big hearted songs of hard times and heart break from this alt-country American roots band with a classic string band line-up of fiddle, banjo, double bass and guitar, plus mandolin and gospel-style harmonised vocals.
