ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCE
TIM O'BRIEN
It is hard to know where to begin to convey the expansive life and career of Tim O’Brien, one of the key figures in modern American roots music. Tim was born and raised in West Virginia, but moved to Colorado in his teens to play music, and ended up in Nashville like many songwriters before him. Tim is a multi-instrumentalist, equally accomplished on guitar, fiddle, bouzouki, mandolin and mandocello and his musical repertoire is as broad as it is deep, ranging from Irish and American traditional music, to Bluegrass and country. However, it is as a singer that he is probably best known, both for his interpretations of old songs and for his compositions. Tim has won a string of awards to date, and recorded some fifteen albums including Red on Blonde (his tribute to Bob Dylan), the Crossing (an American / Irish transatlantic collaboration) and his recent Grammy Award winning Fiddlers Green (2005).
We are delighted to have Tim here as our Artist-in-Residence at Open House, where he’ll be performing at gigs and sessions, taking a few workshops, and popping up at various events throughout the weekend.
