Neo-Balkan gypsy-punk orchestra. Think Borat meets the Prodigy. This 15 piece anarchic gypsy-punk orchestra from Birmingham are a mix of recovering escapees from Birmingham's Conservatoire and musical firebrands from the Midlands, with a ranting punk poet as front man. The Destroyers take no prisoners when it comes to their gigs – there’s a lot of very odd looking people with big beards, weird hats and scary make-up. Check out their myspace and website. Their music starts with frantic Balkan folk music (accordion, guitars, fiddles, flutes and hurdy-gurdy), adds a howling brass section (trumpets, tuba, trombone and clarinet) and then tops it with the holy trinity of rock ‘n’ roll rhythm (electric guitar, bass and drums) to get things really pumping. This is Eastern European folk music with a gothic turbo charge.

PLUS our favourite London DJ, Joe “Balling the Jack” Cushley, will be flying in to keep things low down ‘n’ dirty, before and after the Destroyers. His set celebrates the beautiful mutants created when blues ‘n’ roots music mates with punk, dance, art-rock and indie.
