“A BAND TO DIE FOR”
Mozaik is a five piece multicultural collective from Europe and America, who play Irish and Balkan traditional music mixed with American old-timey. They are the ‘dream team’ of Andy Irvine, singer, mandolin and bouzouki player, and former member of Planxty (generally accepted to be the greatest Irish traditional group ever to squeeze out a tune). Mozaik’s line-up includes Donal Lunny on bouzouki, guitar and bodhran, another founding member of Planxty and according to Andy, “one of the most innovative musicians that Ireland has ever produced”. From the USA comes Bruce Molsky on fiddle and banjo who Andy describes as “the closest thing I have ever heard to the Old Timey music recorded in the 20's and early 30's” and from Holland, on fiddle, mandolin and guitar, is Rens van der Zalm. The Bulgarian Nikola Parov provides gadulka, gaida, kaval, tin whistle, clarinet, guitar and kalimba. In Andy’s own words, ‘a band to die for’. It would be hard to think of a band with a more impressive line-up.
