Dirk Powell, this year’s Artist-in-Residence, is one of the most multi-talented and universally respected traditional American musicians of his generation. Tonight he’ll be bringing you the best of Appalachian music in its full, foot stomping glory, with his internationally acclaimed Big Band on fiddles, banjos, mandolins, double bass and guitar. Dirk has recorded and performed with artists as diverse as Loretta Lynn, Tim O’Brien, Jack White, T-Bone Burnett and Ralph Stanley, and worked on film scores with directors like Anthony Minghella, Spike Lee, Ang Lee and Victor Nuñez.
Bringing to an end a five day fiesta of transatlantic music making with local musicians, Dirk and his band will be ably supported by local Old Time Officianados, Belfast fiddle player Dermie Diamond and Portadown banjo picker Ian Carmichael.
